The Rent Information and Counseling Division disseminates information to and answers questions from the public by phone and in person; develops, coordinates and maintains accuracy and availability of written materials; educates the public with regard to Department applications; intakes and determines acceptability of applications; receives and handles complaints relating to the provision of housing services.
Major Accomplishments FY 94-95:
Provided general and specific information regarding the Rent Stabilization Ordinance and Regulations related to rents and housing services for units and buildings subject to rent stabilization; Performed a comprehensive overhaul of all Department written materials and re-designed/simplified remaining literature and forms; Special mailing to constituents regarding annual payment of security deposit interest; Restructured division to better serve the public, while reducing personnel costs.
Goals & Objectives FY 95-96:
- Continue to provide general information regarding the Rent Stabilization Ordinance and Regulations and specific information related to rents and housing services for units and buildings subject to rent stabilization.
- Assist the public in filing all related Departmental applications and review material at the time of intake, overseeing requests through to completion.
- Complete additional information videos in conjunction with CATV and Public Information for airing on CityChannel.
- Create, update and disseminate written materials for public consumption regarding rent and housing related issues.
- Enhance current methods and develop alternate ways of effectively providing information to the public.
Major Cost Items:
Personnel costs; printing and binding of brochures, fact sheets and forms; a special mailing either re: legislative update or security deposit interest payment.
