TENANT TIP: SPENDING YOUR OWN MONEY When you are terminating your tenancy, do not forget to apply your last month's rent deposit to your last month - there is no reason to pay twice. According to s.82 of the Landlord and Tenant Act the landlord must pay you 6% annual interest on your deposit. He must pay you this money once a year. If he does not, then write him a letter requesting the money no later than the end of the next month. If he still does not pay you, consider deducting the amount from your next rent cheque.
