TENANT TIPS: MAXIMUM RENT What is maximum rent? Maximum rent is the most rent that your landlord can charge for your unit. Every unit in Ontario has a maximum rent. What if I am paying less than maximum rent? That is fine, your landlord is allowed to charge you less than the maximum rent. What if I am paying more than maximum rent? Your landlord is not allowed to charge you more than the maximum rent. You can apply for a rent rebate in order to recover any excess rent that you may have paid.
