A loud, block-long crowd of about 250 protesters picketed the Manhattan offices of Sen. Alfonse D’Amato on May 29, demanding that he renounce his support for phasing out rent controls and tenant protections. The Republican party boss was a major force behind the nomination of George Pataki for Governor and the elevation of Joseph Bruno to Senate Majority Leader.
