HOUSING COURT/ EVICTIONS All housing courts are open and functioning. Many cases in Manhattan Housing Court were postponed. If you had a case in Manhattan Housing Court between 9/11 and 9/14 and were not notified of a new date, go to Housing Court with your index (L&T) number to find out the status of your case. Issuance of eviction notices ("6 day notices") commenced again in Manhattan on Sept. 28 except in certain zip codes. If you received such a notice on Oct. 1, the earliest you can be evicted is Oct. 9. LEGAL AID/ LEGAL SERVICES The central phone for the Legal Aid Society at 90 Church Street is still out. For referral to the Legal Aid or Legal Services servicing your neighborhood, call the central phone number for Legal Services of New York (LSNY) at (212) 431-7200.
HPD Numbers at HPD which used to begin with "(212) 863-", now begin with "(646) 352-". The last four digits remain the same. HPD’s Central Complaints line is still (212) 824-4328 (824-"HEAT"). HPD’s Housing Litigation bureau, which can take your landlord to court for lack of heat and hot water or other building-wide problems, is (646) 352-8800.
