You can't read. There is nothing in what you have quoted that says you can avoid paying rent for the full 7 months of the lease. What you have quoted says how you can avoid an automatic month-to-month renewal: give notice at least 60 days prior to the end of the lease. If there is a month-to-month extension, you can terminate it by giving at least 30-days notice prior to the end of the month.

:
: I live in a large apt. complex in Charlotte, NC. We signed a 7 month lease
: agreement that says "the term of this lease will be automatically renewed
: on a month-to-month basis unless"... "(1) either party provides the other
: party with a written notice of termination at least 60 days prior to the end
: of the initial rental term OR at least 30 days prior to the end of any month-
: to month term". I gave them 60 days notice and want to leave before all 7
: months are up. They say I owe them for all 7 months and can't just give 60 days
: notice at any time in the first 7 months. I say I can by what is written in
: lease I signed. Am I right?
