Illegal Rent Hike in Stabilized Apartment

Posted by Steve on January 15, 2000 at 18:41:50:

I recently moved into a rent stabilized apartment in Manhattan.
I got a copy of the lease and requested a list of Major Improvements that
could justify the rent hike on my vacancy lease over the previous tenant.
The list includes numerous things that were obviously not done and were clearly
put on the list to "justify" the 1/40 cost of the improvements that would
contribute to the rent hike on the vacancy lease. My question is, if I call
my landlord on it, is it worth it? Will I ever be able to get an apartment
in this city again? Also, is a landlord required to show a
tenant the improvement itemization upon request?

Thanks!
