I'm about to sign a lease on a rent stabilized apt in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and wonder how i can check to be sure the rent is correct, ie, that they increased it by the legal amount over previous tenant. The previous tenant had apparently been there for a long time and they put in a new kitchen, fridge, stove etc plus painting walls and sanding of floors etc-- so they spent some money to renovate. How do i check this out?
