noisy landlords

Posted by Kristin Kelly on February 03, 2000 at 19:24:03:

I live out in Islip,Suffolk County, and rent an upstairs apartment in a house. I Don't think it is a legal apartment because we have no lease. My landlords that live downstairs play their music till all hours of the night. When asked to lower it I just get cursed out and told to bad. They are also selling their house and I came home today to find strangers looking at my apartment completly by themselves. To top it off the chain on my front door was on so these strangers had to let me in my own apartment. What are my legal rights for this matter. I'm a nice quiet person, and can't take much more of this. We pay our rent on or before the day its due, never been late. Landlords would be lucky to have tenants like us.
