More info, are you in New York City, how many units or apartments are there in the building? If you live in NY and there are more then 7 units in the building then you have a lot of options for defending yourself.

As far as him coming into your apartment, you can always change the locks or add a heavy bolt lock, and/or ultimately calling the Police. Depending on where you live a landlord has the right to the key for the bottom lock and the tenant does not have to provide a key for a dead bolt or top lock. Give me more info.
