Landlord fraud at DHCR

Posted by brenda on February 20, 2000 at 13:31:43:

I've been involved in a protracted reduction in services complaint
before the DHCR. Have been winning all the way, and the DHCR recently
ordered my rent rollback. The landlord has been lying, lying and lying,
most recently saying in a PAR that the DHCR inspector was confused and inspected
the wrong apartment! Fortunately I have photos etc. so I am reasonably
sure I will win the PAR.
My question is this -- arent landlords every prosecuted for false statements
or filing false instruments? Isnt that illegal? Would there be any point to
my pressing that issue, maybe by going to the DA and pressing charges, or
is that just a waste of time? In this case the landlord is falsely accusing
a DHCR employee of incompetence, so you'd think he'd be pissing them off
enough for them to refer the case themselves.
