ILLEGAL SUBLET: from bad to worse

Posted by Grape Tang on March 20, 2000 at 19:10:44:

I posted a message last week about my illegal sublet situation, and my situation is getting worse. The lease holders moved me into a different apartment this weekend, presumably because they were getting "found out" at the old apartment. Where I am now, they aren't allowing me to get a phone line in my name and I'm not allowed to use the mailbox in the building. Also, the apartment door has two locks, and they only gave me one key - concievably, they can lock me out of the apartment and lock me out from my belongings.

I really don't know what to do. Yes, I'm looking for an apartment. Of course. It's a little hard when you don't have a phone number, but I'm doing what I can. Meanwhile, these people have all kinds of power over me, and I feel completely helpless, totally at their mercy. I really have no idea what to do.

If anyone has any ideas, e-mail me. I'll be more specific about my situation via e-mail, and I appreciate anything anyone has to say.

Thank you.
