is there a limit on month-to-month lease?

Posted by david g on March 21, 2000 at 19:31:42:

hello
someone told me that if you've been on a month-to-month rent for a year, your landlord has to give you a real one-year lease for the next year. is there any truth to this?
what if he sends you a 30 day vacate notice, and the time is up at the end of the first month into the second year of month-to-monthing?
any advice would be much appreciated.
thanks
david
