Hi,
My wife and I live in a rent-stabilized apartment in mid-town Manhattan. The apt is reghistered w/ DHRC.
We are forming a tenant group due to steadily worsening conditions. In my research about the building I have discovered that in December of 1998
a companycalled Extended Stay L.L.C. purchased a mortage for parts of the two lots our building sits. At the same time we started getting lots of short term tenants in the building. To me this means some rent regulated apartments were sold.
The people who come in are temporary and have no respect for our homes. Is it legal for the building owner to remove regulated apartments
so they con basically make them into hotels?
The super was upset w/ the behaviour of a couple of such tenants and was told by the managing agent to
leave them alone they're just "temporary"!
What does this mean?
What can we do?
Thanks in advance.
Help please.
We can't afford to move. Also the ouner appears to have sold the air-rights over the building as well. The construction
project next door has built out over the roof.
