I recently signed a lease for an apt. The building management said the owner would be in later that day to sign the lease. Three days later, and after they cashed our certified checks, they now say they the apt is already rented. Is this legal? A friend thought it might be a violation of the statute of fraud regarding oral contracts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
