Is my lease legal if the landlord never signed it?

Posted by Red on August 29, 2000 at 13:47:55:

I recently signed a lease with a rental company in Buffalo, New York. (I live in a unit with four apartments, 6 units in all and pay $495 a month.) My 4-page lease clearly states "Landlord and tenant have signed this lease as of the date at the top" and there's a space for a witness signature. However, the landlord did not sign the lease, nor has he provided me with a signed copy. There was no witness, either. I asked an attorney if the lease was legal, and he said that the landlord could always sign his copy later--the important (and binding) part was that I had signed it. However, there's a chance that I may break my lease, because the company is already being very difficult. Is my lease legal if the landlord never signed it?
