Breaking a lease but landlord keeping security deposit

Posted by Joshua Greenberg on August 02, 2000 at 11:04:41:

I am currently under lease in a rent-controlled/stabilized building on the Upper East side of Manhattan. There are at least 14 units in the building.
My lease is up at the end of November and I am planning on leaving early.
I was told that I signed a rider to my lease stating that early termination of the lease will result in the forfeiture of my security deposit. I am giving ample time to re-lease the apartment and I was also told that there was a 30-day cancellation option to this rider but that they did not accept it.
Is there anything I can do to get the security deposit back?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
