My "new" landlady (who happens to be a realtor) just brought the building I have lived in for 8 years. My rent has always been $625.00 a month. My lease is up Jan 1st. She has just informed me she is going to raising my rent another $375.00!!! Is this legal? Also if I refuse the rent increase how long can I stay before I get evicted.I live in Long Island NY and the building is not rent controlled.
