First, at the risk of sounding like Richard, do you have renter's insurance? If not, this is a good reminder that you should get a policy for property damage.

Does your lease say anything about leaks or other property damage (it probably says only that it's not the landlord's problem, but you should check it out.)

You could consider filing a claim in small claims court.

Basically, even if you do have insurance, you need to decide whether it's worth the time and expense to file a claim or go to court. Though you are clearly justifably annoyed -- that agent sounds like a jerk -- it may make more sense to let it go.
