You'd be on rather precarious ground

If you buy a plane ticket and come all the way back here just to go to small claims court, be aware that you'd have to convince a judge that a shattered shower glass was not caused any action on your part. Think about it. In my experience glass panes don't just pop out and smash themselves. I'm not saying you are being untruthful, but rather, telling you what is going to go through the judge's (and your landlady's) mind.

You ARE entitled to ask for a receipt for the cost of the replacement glass and its installation. Maybe the expense did not ascend to $500, and she will just charge you for her actual costs.

But basically this is a situation that you should just accept as a loss and move on and forget about. You face an uphill battle if you take this into court, and even if you win, you'd lose, as your travel expenses undoubtedly would be more than $500. Sorry this happened, but crap happens to all of us -- better to just move on than to let the loss drag out.
