: : : I live in a rent-stablized apartment. My landlord wants the name and Social Security # of my new roommate (who isn't on the lease). I know I'm supposed to provide the name, but the #? Please advise.

: : If the person will be included onto the lease, then the landlord has a right to the social security number to find out if this person is working, is financially able to pay the share of the rent and is who they say they are.

: Sam did not say anything about putting his roommate ON the lease, therefore, the landlord has not right to the SSN.

JJ -- that's why I started the sentence with IF. Otherwise, then no, the landlord has no right to the SSN. I thought that was implied.
