month to month--rent increase

Posted by chris on January 21, 2001 at 23:38:55:

I have lived in a two bedroom apt in a two family home in brooklyn for almost two years. We've paid rent on time and never bounced a check. This morning (1/21/01) my landlord told my wife that they are increasing the rent for february $200 a month-- from 900 to 1100. We never signed a lease, and have always been month to month. We objected to the increase and told them we would look for another apt or buy a home. In the mean time --what is the minimum amount of time they must notify us for an increase and do we have to pay it?
