I don't know what the fee was but if it was something like two months rent, unfortunately that what fees run. The best way to think about the fee is as a percentage of the lease. If your fee is 2 Grand, then over a two-year lease it is a extra 83 a month. So if you can get a rent-stabilized apt for like 1000 a month, that is still excellent. Fee's Suck, high rents suck, but hey its Manhattan. If you ever come across a rent-stabilized place again, don't think just take.
