: I am a resident in NYC and considering bankruptcy. What impact would filing have on my lease? I have not defalt on rent and do not want to give up my apartment.

I filed personal 4 years ago. It had no impact on my lease at the time. My landlord didnt know about it, and it's none of their biz.
You can even keep any credit cards you dont owe anything on and still use them.. if you want. You only have to file your debts that you cant pay. Mine were over $100K. Woohoo! :)

There were a few times when I was looking for a new place, they would run a credit check and not allow me to rent. So I started a home based business, got a tax id #, and started using that.
