Last month rent on month-to-month termination

Posted by coolrgu on March 21, 2001 at 14:04:08:

I live in San Diego, CA. My lease went on to
month-to-month automatically after the first 1-year
lease ended. I gave landlord a written 30-day
move-out notice recently which makes my last day to be
in the middle of the next month. Landlord is asking
me to pay the full month of rent for the next month
even though I will only be occupying the unit for a
half of the next month. This is the first time
leasing from a private party who owns a condo, and I
have never had this kind of problem so far with any
other bigger commercial apartment managements. Does
anyone know any law on this type of issue? Where can
I find it? Do I need to pay the full month rent? Any
info will be appreciated.
