who is responsible for moving cost when renovating apt.

Posted by Dawn on April 16, 2001 at 13:53:58:

I lived in a 2story building with a store downstairs and 2 apartments upstairs in Queens,NY. I rent on a month to month basises for the past 17 years. My landlord is selling the building. It is almost to closing. The new owners said that they want to renovate the apartments. There is a 90% change that we will be ask to move. If this is the case who is responsible for our cost of moving? My present landlord said he will pay the realstate broker for his commission but only if we go to his broker. Two people told me that the landlord has to pay for all cost of moving if we have to move. What is the truth to this. I can't save enough money to move within the next 2 or 3 months.
