What arrangement did you have with the broker ? I can't imagine using the services of a broker without knowing exactly how much his fee would be. And when you are paying money in real estate you need to get in writing exactly how much you are paying and what it is for. Sounds like you are learning these lessons the "hard way".

I've had great experiences with good brokers ... they save you a tremendous amount of time and work with you until you find an apartment. Unfortunetly, there are also bad brokers out there, lazy brokers who prey on incompetent tenants and who don't provide a service to anybody. Its up to you to ask questions, get promises in writing, and choose the good from the bad.
