In absence of any lease provisions, state law prevails. This usually means that you are responsible for the balance of the contract (rent, utilities, maintenance and possibly advertising costs). Do you have anything in writing from them that said that you could get out of your lease early with no further consequences? If you do, you're off the hook. Otherwise, its your word against theirs.
