The landlord took me to court and I signed a stipulation, including a final judgment executable May 15th; however, I have commitment letters from 4 charitable organizations to meet the rent arrears. The landlord has been unwilling to furnish the necessary documentation (tax ID number and rent history) for two of the organizations' commitments to take effect. Since issuance of the checks is contingent upon receipt of all information by all four organizations, I have been unable to obtain the checks. I filed an order to show cause and have a court date this Friday.
Yes, I am in NYC and have spoken with the pro se attorney, who has given me no assurances that the judge will look favorably upon my situation.
Can the landlord be forced to accept these checks? Is there a precedent I can cite?
Thanks for your help.
