As a landlord, unless you are a licensed contractor, I would not allow a you, the tenant to perform any services upon my building. I have had too many - do it yourself repairs that I have spent a fortune tearing down and having re-done properly to allow that!!! There is nothing worse than a do it yourselfer that has no clue to proper angles of miters, which nails and materials to use, etc. If you were capable of carpentry, you could make a fortune in it these days. If your talents lie elsewhere, contact your renter's insurance company and have them pay the Landlord for proper repairs or have him take it out of deposit. Carpenter's wages currently run around around $65 an hour in my area (not counting trip charges), so make sure your "friends" are more careful next time.
