I am writing from North Carolina-- but I have a strange situation. In 1999, my room mate broke the lease by leaving before the lease was up. The landlord awarded her the full security deposit because she gave him some sob story. I moved out, with verbal notification in November 1999. In January 2001, the owner of the property (not the landlord) called and demanded two months rent because I failed to give "notice." I have been paying payments but think this is crap. Does anyone have any suggestions?
