How to find out who owns a building in NYC

Posted by nyhawk on June 10, 2001 at 10:21:13:

First, you need the block and lot numbers for the building you are searching. To find the block and lot numbers go here http://nycserv.nyc.gov/NYCServInquiry/NYCSERVMain (or click the link below) and scroll down the page to where it asks for the building's address -- fill in the address (apartment number is not necessary). When you get the building's block and lot number (referred to as "BBL" for borough block and lot) then go here: http://www.nyc.gov/html/dof/html/asmt.html and click on "view assessment roll" then type in the block and lot numbers ...then click on any of the options to determine the owner of the building,,,its quite easy once you try it once... You can also find out the building's classification on the same page as owner info...(which might be helpful, for example, if you want to determine if your building is supposed to contain stores or commercial space, etc) good luck!
