In Reply to: Sheriffs sale of rental in NJ? Tenant not notified??? posted by Cherri on June 13, 2001 at 14:22:05:

Call the sheriff's office, confirm the date, time and place of the sale. Be there and buy the house. Results: the renter will become an owner, will most likely get the house for a very low price, and will never pay rent again.

If the tenant is not interested in buying, then she should stay as she is for now are for now ... but make plans in case it is necessary to vacate. Tenant should wait until she herself is given notice by a governmental agency or the current landlord that the house is in foreclosure. Although its rare, county recording offices do sometimes make mistakes.

: Can anyone help point me in the direction of finding out a persons recorse when they have a lease, are renting a home in NJ and up to date on payments....having a sheriffs sale notice put on the door stating that the home will be auctioned on June 28th 2001?? Landlord is in FL and has been notified and is also very confused....but that doesnt help the tenant....any ideas what she can do?

: Thank you
