Since you are month to month -I'm assuming this is a residential lease? 30 days WRITTEN notice to raise the rent. How can he bill you/raise it for May and June when you already paid and he accepted the rent for those months?
Anything you or the super said to each other is sort of irrelevant-unless he's the owner or designated agent for the building. According to what you've posted you are correct that the increase would be effective July 1- can't back date a lease-or collect a retroactive rent increase. As far as you're concerned, the new lease that you just received is the first time you were informed or heard of any rent increase (smile):)You're only on the hook for July onward.
