Call the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal rent info hotline (718-739-6400) and ask for an apartment rent history. It will be mailed to you. Write back to this forum if you have questions after that. Don't necessarily take the building owner's word for it if the rent history says the apartment is deregulated -- check it out. Good luck.

: I just move into a new apartment in Queens, NY and found out through my next door neighbor that my building is rent stabilized and has new ownership. According to my neighbor, the previous tenant paid $725.00 I have a two year lease for $1,110.00
: The previous tenant moved out before the new owner took over the building.
: How can I find out if I'm being ripped off?
: HELP !

: Thank you,

: Omaira
