Were these multiple requests you talk of in writing, sent certified or fed ex to the LL that was present four months ago? Did you keep copies? Were conversations noted? If not, that might be a problem as it'll break down to a he said/she said situation because there's no paper trail which would be a legal document in court to prove your case. Check your lease regarding timeframes of the offering of a renewal lease. Also, just in case, check with DHCR about the rental history and status of your particular apartment. It doesn't hurt to check...

: I have lived in my apartment for 4 years, with a roomate, under a year to year lease. The building is not rent stabilized (only 5 units). We now have a new building owner and he wants to raise the rent. Are we protected at all from any kind of rent increase? As well, our lease expired 2 months ago and mutiple requests were made for renewal prior to and after expiration. Help!
