Certificate of Occupancy

Posted by Dayann on July 23, 2001 at 03:41:28:

Is the certificate of occupancy of a private house a matter of public record? If so, how do I get to look at the cert. of occupancy for the address I live at? I'm trying to see if my place of residence is listed as a multiple dwelling. HPD is treating it as though it is a multiple dwelling, but I want to be sure that it is listed as one before I show up in Court.

If the LL files for permits to convert a house into a multiple dwelling, would that information be a matter of public record also, and if so, where do I go to see it?

By the way, the window guards are up, the 30 day notice is invalid because it was worded wrong and served improperly, we're suing for repairs while we look for a new place. If all goes well we will get a rent abatement and our security deposit back and we'll be able to move into a nicer place by the end of Sept. Thanks everyone for your help, if anything changes I'll keep you posted.
