I'm not a lawyer, I just read a lot and converse with a lot of tenant's rights activists.

SO be sure to research any thing I say or anything anyone else on this site tells you to be sure it is "kosher." You can also get an initial consultation with a landlord and tenant lawyer. If you call the Bar Association, they will recommend you to someone, and the cost of an initial consultation when you are referred by the Bar is usually only $25 or $35. You can print out any advice you got from TenantNet and show it to the lawyer, explain your situation and see what he or she has to say about it.
