See Section 50-a of the Multiple Dwelling Law at
http://www.tenant.net/Other_Laws/MDL/mdl03.txt.

Unless the building was converted to a multiple dwelling after 1967, tenants in a majority of the apartments in the building would have to request, in writing, an intercom system, and each of the rent regulated tenants would be subject to a monthly MCI increase equal to his or her proportionate share of 1/84 of the cost of the intercom system.

: I live in an 18 unit tenament walk up on the upperwest side that was built in the late 1800's. I have a written lease. I wanted to know if it's the law to have a buzzer if your building has more than 8 units? We have NO buzzer here and it's very dangerous at times. How can I get my LL to put in a buzzer? Do I need to start a tenants organization or can I just report it to someone that will rectify this matter?

: Gary
