is your lease just a copy? usually the LL holds another copy of the lease and maybe that one is signed in full.

i suppose if you could be sure there was no other copy of the lease you might have something, but then is there any evidence that you even paid a deposit in the first place? leases protect LL's and tenants alike, at least well-written leases.

and honestly, $50 ain't to bad to part with considering many LL's routinely ignore the law and keep it all without even trying to explain it. it's not worth it to fight for so little dough.
