Amount of time a tenant has to vacate a premises

Posted by Jeannette Beck on September 18, 2001 at 20:13:42:

My landlord recently offered to sell the Co-op unit he was renting to me for 62,000. Today he told me that he has an offer for 78,000 and I have 10 weeks to find a new place. Is this true? I heard that I should have about six months. I live in Astoria/Long Island City, Queens, NY in a one bedroom co-op unit. I do not have a written lease, however I have occupied the premises for 3 years. There are approximately 48 units in this co-op. I'm not sure when it was built but it is at least fifty years old. I don't know if I am rent controlled, etc. but the landlord recently did raise my rent from 800.00 to 920.00. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
