I live in, what I thought, was a rent stabilized apartment in Brooklyn, NY. I have lived in this apartment going on 6 years now. When it was time to resign my lease, I noticed that where it used to state "apartment", it now reads "room". How can my apartment have been downgraded from an apartment to a room? With a increase of the rent, at that. How can I find out which type of dwelling I really am renting? And, do I have a case if I have been misled for the last 6 years? I signed the lease anyway, being it was going to expire this month. But I do plan on following up on this situation. Any advise will be appreciated. Thanks....
