LL are not required to supply security gates for windows (as opposed to child guards, which they are). If the tenant wants them, they have to buy and install them. BTW you got a pretty good deal. When I had to set up my last apartment with window gates, it cost me $400 or so.
BTW any window gate that opens onto a fires escape must be the keyless type. A number of people have been barbequed by fires in their apartments while trying to find the keys to and unlock padlocked fire gates.
: We have a bathroom window where it leads to the fire escape. The fire escape also extends to our bedroom window, where an emergency gate was already there.
: The Super of the building told us he had an emergency gate for our bathroom window and someone else in the building was interested in getting it. He said he would put it on for $25. Now, should that have been provided for free or are we responsible for paying for the labor and/or gate? I am asking because it seems odd that we are paying for an emergency gate that covers a second entrance to our fire escape. Also, if someone wanted to break into our apartment, all the would have to do is kick in the bathroom window. We already paid the super but was this right? Thanks.
