month-to-month basically means either LL can give you 30days notice or you can give 30days notice to vacate. I have month-to-month tenants as well, and they've been there for 5yrs now. As someone mentioned before, your roommate has to speak with LL and express her interest to stay. Bear in mind, LL has option to ask for apt to be vacated by all parties. If LL decides to ok her staying, she will be responsible for the entire rent and additional security. She wont be able to just get another roommate w/o LL permission or right to backgroun check. I highly recommend you speak with LL, because if you move out and dont say anything, LL has right to keep your deposit.
