The blessings and sage sticks and such are all good precautions. Is there any way you could ever get accustomed to a spirit presence? When I lived in Kentucky, our house was haunted, but not in a menacing way (although it DID terrorize the Nuns and Catholic football coach's family who lived there previously, which must say something, heh heh!). Have you also considered bringing a psychic onto the premises?
Regardless, I think your biggest fear should not be this spirit, but rather the condition of the apartment before you moved in. Is there any way you can find out from the neighbor how the tenant died? If it is a recent death, there could be a chance of biohazardous particles still remaining. From what I know, there are only 2 licensed companies in the NY are who are licensed to sanitize post-mortem areas in the proper way. No matter who or what the cause of death, the area should be treated as a biohazard, just as a precaution. Unfortunately, landlords often give these cleanup jobs to the lowest bidder, which most likely includes one of the non-licensed cleaning companies. (Another thing, too, cleanup can't begin until after relatives have been notified, or if a crime is suspected.)
I don't mean to scare you more than you already may be, but the sanitaztion is something to think about.
Yes, I watch the Discovery Channel.
