No you are not. Had a landlord try and do that for me. For different reasons, my lease had some fees taken off and the ditzy office staffer wrote them back in after I had signed. Then I got a notice about hundreds of dollars being owed. I went up to them and stated all the facts. When they realized they had broken the lease by writing in new items and had broken the law, they politely backed down. Always get the lease copied before you hand it in.

: In my otherwise all-electric apartment I have a gas stove.
: For the past six years I have been charged a $10/month
: cooking gas fee as was always stipulated on the lease.

: This year when I was sent my renewal lease there was no
: mention of the fee, which was great since I hardly ever use
: my stove anyway. I signed the lease and mailed it back to the landlord.
: However, when he mailed me back my copy, he had
: handwritten in the gas fee (and increased it to $12!).
: Am I obliged to pay this fee since the copy of the lease that I signed did not include it?

: Thanks,
: S.
