Your "landlord" is actually a tenant renting a loft from the owner of the building. Since you paid for Nov. and Dec. in advance and he has asked you to leave on Dec. 15, then you most certainly are entitled to a partial return of your money - on Dec. 15 or before, not when its 'convenient' for him.

Actually getting it is another issue. If he doesn't come up with the dough you'd have to sue him in small claims court. To do so and actually collect you'd need to keep tabs on his address and where he's employed. Maybe worth it to do so, maybe not. But in any case press him for return of your rent before you leave.

I suggest you rent your next apartment in your own name and directly from the owner, even if that means looking in a less convenient neighborhood or with a longer commute than you have now.
