I do have the cancelled checks, along with a detailed history of what I've paid him. Other than contacting the lawyer I found him to contest the eviction, how can I find out what the official, legal rent was that he was paying? I suppose I could call his old landlord--I'm sure they'd be happy--but I don't know what the procedure is on these matters.

I know what I saw on the form, but it would be nice to either get a confirmation or an official "declaration of rent" if possible.
