Can we get our money back after signing lease?

Posted by VC on November 28, 2001 at 11:55:31:

Two friends and I just got a two-bed convertible. A large misunderstanding has occurred between us and our broker--we feel cheated and deceived. The landlord is supposed to take care of adding the wall in our apartment--we all agree on that--however our broker claims that she told us we would have to pay for it although all three of us never heard her say that. We were not as cautious as we should've been, I admit (this is New York after all), and we signed the lease before working out the details of the wall. But that is because we didn't think anything needed to be worked out, we thought it was understood that the landlord would build and pay for the wall. We feel that our broker really rushed us into signing the lease and paying all the necessary fees (rent, security deposit, broker's fee) and whether she realized it or not, in her rush she neglected to go over the details of the wall.

In any case, we want to break the lease--but is this possible? Will we lose all of the money that we've paid?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks.
