Actually, the LL spying is not that great of a concern as viewing the forum is open to anyone. We've been looking for better features, easier maintenance (just doing the monthly archiving by hand is a several-hour chore), and conducive to better focused discussions.

That people would need to register is a by-product of the newer software out there and not the underlying intent. In fact, we had set up a test board over a year ago. See it at:
http://www.tenant.net/phpBB2
A few people tinkered with it, but we didn't push it at the time. (What you see there is just a test and we may be working on something even more recent, so that is not a finished product). To see the messages, you may need to adjust the "Show all topic" drop down box as the test messages go back.

This is called Ultimate Bulletin Board and there are thousands of sites using this software and similar software packages. Instead of a threaded discussion, all articles for a particular thread are on the same page -- easing up on the navigation a bit. Some of those sites get thousands of postings per day (even with registration). What we have now are occasional tenants asking questions followed by a series of regulars who chime in; not bad in itself, but there's not a lot of new blood and some of those are trollers (like Richard and a few others). But with the registration comes a chosen or assigned user name, so one troller wouldn't be able to pretend to be someone else, or use a different name for each post. It would add to consistencey and some accountability (as much as would be possible under any type of forum).

The software we have now is functional, but dates back to the early days of the net and is hacked up.

: :no way. the landlord spying is minimal and if anything it erminds them of the lawas out there and that some people are infirmed. love the format the way it is!!!
